What the Nigerian passengers may, or may not have done is a secondary matter. What you need to think about is this - would BA have "emptied" a trans-atlantic flight if a similar thing had happened......I don't think so! Yes, Nigerians can be rude but I mean this is simply ridiculous!

culled from the Mirror

A British Airways captain ordered 136 passengers off his plane in chaotic scenes after they all started complaining to cabin crew.

As the flight waited to take off at Heathrow the row was sparked by the restraint of a man being forcibly deported.

Many were distressed by his pitiful cries of "I go die" and one passenger, Ayodeji Omotade, 39, spoke up on his behalf.

The deportee was taken off the Lagos-bound jet by immigration staff and police.

But five officers returned and arrested Mr Omotade. This outraged the other 135 passengers in the economy class section and they complained to cabin crew.
Amid riotous scenes in the aisles, 20 police officers boarded to calm everything down.
Then the BA pilot took the extraordinary decision to boot off everyone who had witnessed the arrest of Mr Omotade, an IT consultant from Chatham, Kent.

The captain took the view they were all guilty of disturbing the flight, although no more passengers were arrested.

After the economy class section was virtually cleared, the deportee, aged about 30, was brought back on and the flight left.

The passengers were booked on to later flights but Mr Omotade was told by BA staff he was banned by the airline for life.

English-born Mr Omotade, married with a daughter aged four, was handcuffed and kept in police custody for eight hours after his arrest. He has not been charged and is seeking an apology from BA.

He was traveling from Heathrow's Terminal 4 to Lagos for his brother's marriage and had in his luggage the groom's wedding ring, shirt and suit. He missed the ceremony.
He told the Mirror: "There were agonizing noises from an individual being restrained. It went on for 20 minutes.

"I pleaded with the officers and my exact words were, 'Please don't kill him.'
"I was not swearing or threatening. BA staff said the officers were doing their jobs and nothing was going to happen. When he was removed we thought it was the end of the matter.
"But police officers came back and I was handcuffed and dragged off the plane."

He claims his luggage has been lost and £1,600 cash he had for relatives has been taken and not returned.

Scotland Yard confirmed: "A man was arrested for affray and causing a disturbance and was bailed."

Ba said: "Police were called to the BA75 service to Lagos on March 27 after a large number of passengers became disruptive.
Many were removed.

"We take any threats against our crew or passengers very seriously and this kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

I think this one is gathering pace (story also on Chxta and Ijebuman's blogs) and hopefully even if it doesn't cause BA to reform their attitude towards Nigerians at least a boycott will reduce the demand of BA tickets on their Lagos flights (thus leading to lower prices)?

Pls Sign This Petition & Boycott British Airways!
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Nigerians_against_BA/Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-30937396918124089392008-03-11T15:02:00.000-07:002008-03-11T15:04:36.199-07:00The Apprentice AfricaKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-65533591078077554862008-02-16T12:36:00.000-08:002008-12-09T14:11:44.821-08:00Naija makes American Idol top 24Viewers of American Idol will remember Jasmine Trias who made it third place in Season Three of the show based on the vote from Hawaii. This week Chikezie Eze (of Nigerian Heritage) made it to the Top 24 on American idol. From this point the public vote will dictate who stays in the competition and who goes home. I guess its time to really find out how many Nigerians there really are in America. But that being said, just like Obama, Chikezie might be so talented he doesn't need to depend on the black vote at all...

Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-56890513179478278972008-01-05T14:40:00.000-08:002008-01-26T21:13:14.822-08:00Funny Naijas on Youtube.Blak Jesus

Crank Dat Naija Boy

Basketmouth
Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-786462575711881252007-08-24T00:44:00.000-07:002007-08-24T05:42:10.290-07:00Madeleine McCann, Rhys Jones and the British MediaFirst off let me offer my condolences to the Parents of Rhys Jones and my deepest sympathies to Madeleine McCann's Parents. I pray that God comforts them at their time of loss and pain. No caring parent deserves to have a child taken away from them in the circumstances of either of these cases. My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with both sets of parents.

Do Missing, Stabbed or Shot Children need to be white to make Page One news?
I'm sure I don't need to remind anyone of the media circus that surrounded the Madeleine McCann case. David Beckham went on TV urging for information, a £2.5 million reward fund was launched and the parents were granted an audience with the Pope.

The Rhys Jones case is barely 36 hours old and it is all over the newspapers and TV and one can sense the momentum building. I would like to reiterate the statement of Sir Ian Blair, and accuse the british media of institutional racism in their reporting. The media choose which stories they would like to be front page and then they launch blanket publicity of certain cases which sometimes leads to mass public hysteria. Is it a coincidence that the children in both these cases are photogenic white children?

Does no one remember the black kids shot dead over the last 6 months; Kamilah Peniston, 12; Michael Dosunmu, 15; Adam Regis, 15; or stabbed to death Paul Erhahon, 14; or the missing Elizabeth Ogungbayibi, 6 or Dorothy Powell, 9? Actually I should qualify that statement. I hate visiting the Dentists office. Despite this I somehow manage to drag myself to my dentist once every year. Today I visited my dentist for my annual 'routine' check up. After a clean and an xray I didn't request, I get hit with a bill for 95 quid.

Dentists and Mechanics, the only two professionals you go to and they don't need to give you an indication of the cost of the service before its incurred. Never since the launch of CNN in the early nineties has a media been able to bring into our homes such a wealth of information. Have you missed out on any events that everyone is talking about? The Zidane headbutt, Peter Crouch Robot dance, the Spiderman 3 trailer, Lakisha Jones on American idol? Check it out on Youtube. This is the Youtube generation.

For those of you who haven't discovered Youtube yet, you haven't completely missed out yet but I would compare it to missing the early days of Napster, you missed out dudes! Since they have been bought out by Google its not the same, as increasingly a lot of videos are being taken down for copyright infringements. Anyway all is not lost as there are still a lot of gems to be found. (Otherwise check out some of the pretenders to the Youtube throne who don't have big business strangling them yet - Broadcaster.com, ifilm, revver.com, vidiac.com etc)

Had a bad case of insomnia tonight and thought to check out Naija stuff on Youtube. And came across the compilations of Naija tv adverts from the 1980s below and boy they sure brought back memories.

Some of these jingles were just so cheesy. "Wise men bank with UBA and women too with UBA, start a savings account today with UBA, UBA". Now let me think I am a big man on the island looking for a bank, oh Wise men bank with UBA, must bank there too. As if.

"You need a tonic for that engine Fatigue... now I'm feeling better cause the doctor he gave me Super Visco static, the doctor he cured my Engine fatigue" - The Ad finished by stating "One litre ₦3.50" If thats not a sign of inflation I don't know what is. I wonder how much it is now...

Chief Zebudaya and Samanja "Are you are, If you are want a good detergent to be wash deep down cleaner, brighter and fresher, go to be purchase the new Elephant blue detergent". That really says it all doesn't it.

"Omo, Omo, Super Blue Omo washes brighter and it shows" 68 kobo. Patti Boulaye as the Lux girl, Bar 40 kobo, Close Up appeal 75 kobo? This stuff brings tears to my eyes. What can you buy for 75 kobo in Nigeria today? (Well I guess it was 20 years ago...)

Anyway the enterprising dudes who put these old ads up have a glossy website inollywood where they are selling some old Nigerian classic TV series such as Cock Crow at dawn (Uncle Gaga), Icheoku, Village Headmaster, Mirror in the Sun (Barbara Soky) etc I really hope the original actors are still getting a cut of the action. Does anyone else have any old Naija tv stuff still on VHS/Betamax? Its definitely not due to the alcolhol I bought at the Students Union bar as I didn't take more more than a couple of bottle of some alcopop, I think I was just too close to one of the speakers all night.

Anyway the Concert was styled as Afropop featuring Nneka, Ximenez and with Styl-Plus as the headline act. I've got to confess to being pissed off big time with the organisation of the event. Styl-Plus only came on at half eleven and played for half an hour looking at their watches after every song. And they didn't even have live music so they were dependent on the CD of instumentals of their songs that the DJ was playing. Come on Guys surely you have to be more professional than this? My cousin even thought one of the Guys - Zeal was miming at one point.

The bands that impressed me were a group called Four Kornerz and Nneka.

Four Kornerz are a band made up of four brothers: Deji (27), TJ (25), Vidal (23) and Daniel (21), check them out at www.fourkornerz.com they have a great sound and the lead singer Deji is a real showman.

Nneka has a great voice and her music has a message that was difficult to follow due to the sound at the venue. For black people however they need to believe that by electing him it will change their lot. When Jesse Jackson launched his attempt to seek the democratic nomination in 1984 it was clear what platform he choose to stand on, where he thought his votes would come from.

Is it enough for black america just to have a black man in the white house or does his politics have to be black as well. Critics of Obama point out that 10years of having Clarence Thomas on the bench haven't done a damn thing for black America. Creating a symbol is no longer enough. Its a shame that the USA of the 21st Century has only seen 5 black governors ever.

Al Sharpton argues that America cannot afford to look beyond race in a climate that is still populated by inequalities that are inherently due to racial prejudice and historical inequalities

Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1163843527586759072006-11-18T01:30:00.000-08:002006-11-18T15:07:34.216-08:00Nigerians Representing!

Nigeria is the ninth most populous country in the World and it has a population of over 130 million. For a country with so many citizens we have been for too long underacheivers on the World stage. The few Countries with larger populations have all excelled in some way or the other, Brazil the worlds greatest footballing nation, India has one of the largest film industries with Bollywood and Indian restaurants can be found in all the worlds major cities, Russia has the A-bomb and was one of the worlds superpowers, so what happened to the perennial underacheiver Nigeria?

Fortunately recently Nigerians have started doing us proud in all industries on Screen Chiwetel Ejiofor fast becoming a Hollywood heavyweight, other Nigerian Hollywood players are Sophie Okonedo and Caroline Chikezie. On the small screen, stateside Americans have just been treated to the talent and beauty of Nnenna Agba in America's top Model, on UK TV Phina Oruche is in the Australian Jungle in the reality TV Show "I'm a celebrity get me out of here". The clip above is from the show "Little Miss Jocelyn", a sketch show featuring Jocelyn Jee Esien - one of less than 10 black people to have their own show on mainstream TV in the UK. In fact, in Japan (yes Japan), representing Nigerians in diaspora is Bobby Ologun a Japanese TV celebrity! (the error in numbering is hers and not mine).

I’m an Irish woman and have worked in a refugee centre as a paralegal for five years representing asylum seekers to remain in Ireland. In my time served in this field I have learned the main reasons as to why they marry European Union nationals and it is as follows.

Ten reasons why Nigerian men marry European women (please note this does not include those with full refugee status recognition, doctors, engineers, or those who have ordinarily been resident in an European Union member state for at least five years):

1. Stronger legal basis to remain in the European Union.

2. More freedom to move i.e. change jobs, travel

3. To qualify for European Union fees in colleges etc.

3. To appear to be more successful.

4. More time spent in state will be taken into consideration.

5. To gain citizenship of that country with a view to moving to another European Union member state upon receipt of same.

6. Easier to meet people, easier to integrate,

7. Cannot receive a deportation order and much less likely to warrant the attention of the authorities.

8. Use a white woman, milk her, give her ‘milky’ babies and make mince meat of her for five years for everything she has.

9. Trying a white woman an getting the things that an African lady wouldn’t do in bed although I wouldn’t either but most would (talking bj’s etc) only beauty in white women is things like this.

10. Finally, to have Nigerians when you go home on holidays (especially when choosing a wife) kissing the ground you walk on because you live in Europe people will fling themselves in desperation at you. So overall you get a higher status. What an honour, thanks silly white woman! Job well done!!!!! Now I can go and make my twelve kids, real kids that isPersonally if it was done to me, there will be heads rolling! Then again I know what tribe is more fond of this type of behaviour! together with the uneducated. (Sorry blue eyed Britney nice try but a white man would appreciate you more!)

Yasmeen.

To appear more successful? WTF? My reaction is in two parts. One would be to the bastard sellout Nigerian men (in the minority I pray) who have given this ignorant woman the reason to write this stupid article. I must admit I've missed my true vocation in life and that should have been to work in the British High Commission in Nigeria as the Senior Visa officer. I believe this must be an issue of lack of education primarily so if you don't have at least a OND (ordinary national diploma, as issued after 2 years of study at a College of Technology in Nigeria) you would need to give me some serious reason to let your ass leave the shores of the country.

Secondly this stupid Yasmeen woman that despite her five years of paralegal work is still unable to count. Unless I missed it somewhere did this biatch mention love? In a top ten list? What gives her the audacity to feel superior to Nigerians? Call it 'reverse' racism if you will, but this is why I won't even date a white girl talk less of marrying one. Like Eddie Murphy said "my soul belongs to the black race". Oya lets us dedicate the next five minutes to rain epe (curses) on Yasmeen's head!Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com269tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1151676902923398202006-06-30T06:44:00.001-07:002006-06-30T07:15:02.923-07:00Do you know your HIV Status?I just read a post on this site where the blogger is trying to comfort someone who has just found out they are HIV positive. Its extremely sadening and while there weren't a lot of details on the article, I must admit that I wouldn't know how to react. What do you say?

A few years ago I had to do a HIV test as part of a mortgage application process cause "I've lived in a country which is high risk for HIV" ie Nigeria! (WTF?) They kept me waiting for the results for 2 weeks and once I received the negative results I swore off unprotected sex for life (well almost).

I also just read here about how Washington DC has plans to do voluntary HIV tests on all its population aged between 14 and 84. They reckon about 43,000 Americans became infected with HIV in 2004, and over 1 million Americans carry the virus of which number a quarter are unaware of their status and are thus liable to be spreading it.

I've had the discussion about HIV status with a couple of friends and they said like Mario Winans they don't wanna know. Do you want to know? (Your HIV Status that is).Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1151419456164353602006-06-27T07:07:00.000-07:002006-06-27T07:44:16.176-07:00Wimbledon and Equal PayIn addtion to death and Taxes, rain during the Wimbledon fornight has got to be the third certainty of life. As soon as I looked out my window on waking up yesterday morning and saw the rain, I knew Wimbledon had started. Only 44 minutes of play took place yesterday on the first day of the tournament.

Fortunately the World Cup has stolen a lot of the attention away from the tennis tournament and thus British hopes aren't being built up again unrealistically - well at least not in the tennis. Henman wasn't seeded and if he gets past the Swedish Soederling in his first match today he will probably face the reigning champion and world number one Roger Federer later in the week. So Englands best hopes probably lie with Andy Murray who should he get to the third round will probably have to meet the talented Andy Roddick, its just as well the football is on.

Meanwhile Venus has gone and restoked the controversy over Equal Pay for women at Wimbledon. The Womens winners gets prize money of £625,000 with the mens winner taking home £655,000. Venus reckons that its a human rights issue as since the difference in prize money is less than 5% the tournament organisers use it to make a social and political point rather than it being recompense for the effort put in. I say since the women only play best of 3 sets compared to best of 5 sets like the men then the prize money needs to reflect this. With France drawing against South Korea today this represents their best opportunity to qualify for the next round. They would be banned from the next world cup and fined heavily if they boycott their next game and give Switzerland an automatic win. My feeling is that for them to be threatening to boycott a match for 3/4 days they don't have much hope of winning it anyway.

Thank God for Ghana.Kushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1149254155089083322006-06-02T06:13:00.000-07:002006-06-02T06:15:55.096-07:00Gina YashereKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1149188793019603842006-06-01T12:05:00.000-07:002006-06-01T12:06:33.020-07:00My African Queen: 2Face IdibiaKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1149188530282865732006-06-01T11:59:00.000-07:002006-06-01T12:02:10.290-07:00FaZe Alone (Remix) - FazeKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1149187378756789702006-06-01T11:42:00.000-07:002006-06-01T11:42:58.756-07:002Face Idibia - Live at Kora AwardsKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1149187248247399042006-06-01T11:40:00.000-07:002006-06-01T11:40:48.246-07:00Nfana Ibaga (No Problem): 2Face IdibiaKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29114613.post-1149187132726421722006-06-01T11:38:00.000-07:002006-06-01T11:38:52.733-07:00Its my Life: Dr AlbanKushhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09843003070299329556noreply@blogger.com0
